Nevertheless, she persisted….

Grapevine_Wreaths_Frames.jpg

6 years.

For 6 years I’ve been doing my best to murder my grapevine.

Why?

Because I’m foolish and didn’t know better.

Because no one in the family likes the grapes.

Because when we moved in I was working full time at a job that felt more than full time. So we neglected that grapevine and it grew runners spanning 30 feet in each direction.

Because one day I got mad because of the previously mentioned job and decided that I needed to hack at something. So I did. I thought for sure I had killed it.

But I learned the next year that I hadn’t.

So I tried again - it was growing into my red roses - it had it coming.

But nope.

It came back….year after year……THANK GOODNESS!

Because I’ve now had a change of heart.

I don’t want to kill the grapevine.

Why?

Because I’ve started making wreaths.

Because I was speaking to a neighbor and she mentioned making wreaths out of grapevine when she was younger.

Because I can weave the strands of this vine together and make something beautiful (even though it still grows into my roses).

For the first time ever, I’m now worried about my grapevine as we inch towards winter.

Let’s hope she pulls through, despite my best efforts.
