About those Snapdragons

Remember those snapdragons that I mentioned before? You know, the 800 or so that I planted?

Yes, those. They were AMAZING!!! So amazing in fact, that I’ve planned for more this year. That’s right, 800 just wasn’t enough. So this year, I’m planning to grow two mixes, both Chantilly and Madame Butterfly, as well as I’m growing some individual colors that caught my eye like Legend Light Pink, Potomac Appleblossom, Orleans Early Lemon Yellow, Costa Silver, Bridal Pink, and Potomac Lavender.

I actually planted my snapdragons this past fall to overwinter. I lucked into overwintering last year due to poor planning, but it worked so well that I’m hoping I can intentionally recreate the process. So far, so good from a weather perspective, but there have been issues with the deer treating my snapdragons as their own personal buffet.

I know you are thinking “But WAIT! Aren’t snapdragons deer resistant?” No, no they are not.

I’m choosing to believe that the deer have saved me time by “pinching” them and I will have straight, long stems in the spring. Fingers crossed. Until then, I’ll just bask in the glory of last year’s harvest.
